Das erste Dialogforum der Doppelstädte

Am 2. und 3. Juni fand das erste Dialogforum der Doppelstädte unter dem Titel „Umgang mit Unterschieden“ im Collegium Polonicum in Słubice statt, einer gemeinsamen Einrichtung  der Europa-Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) und der Adam-Mickiewicz-Universität Poznan. Die Wahl des Veranstaltungsortes unterstreicht die intensive akademische und bürgerschaftliche Zusammenarbeit, die unsere Doppelstadt Frankfurt (Oder)-Słubice auszeichnet.

An dem Forum nahmen drei Delegationen aus europäischen Doppelstädten teil. Sie arbeiteten aktiv an einem Austausch von Ideen und Vorschlägen für die Zukunft unserer grenzüberschreitenden Regionen:

- Die Doppelstadt Esztergom-Sturovo in der Grenzregion zwischen Ungarn und der Slowakei.

- Die Doppelstadt Gorizia-Nova Gorica (Kulturhauptstadt Europas 2025), im Grenzgebiet zwischen Italien und Slowenien

- Die Doppelstadt Frankfurt (Oder) und Słubice (Gastgeber).

Die Delegationen setzten sich zusammen aus Bürgern und Vertretern der Zivilgesellschaft, der Politik und der Verwaltung der beteiligten Kommunen.

Während der zwei Tage wurden verschiedene Themen von gemeinsamem Interesse angesprochen und nach grenzüberschreitenden Lösungen in Bereichen wie Jugendbeteiligung, grenzüberschreitende Mobilität, Bürokratie und Bürgerbeteiligung gesucht.

Gemeinsam erfuhren wir, wie es Menschen mit sehr unterschiedlichem Hintergrund schaffen, miteinander zu leben und zu arbeiten und mit Unterschieden konstruktiv umzugehen. Ziel war es, gemeinsame Erkenntnisse zu gewinnen und nach neuen Strategien zu suchen, die auch auf andere Doppelstädte und europäische Grenzregionen angewendet werden können. Insgesamt 30% der Bevölkerung der Europäischen Union leben in Grenzregionen.

Dies ist das erste von zwei für 2025 und 2026 geplanten Foren, die beide gemeinsam von den Städten Frankfurt (Oder)-Słubice organisiert werden. Die Veranstaltung ist Teil des Interreg Central Europe - Projekts „Border Labs“. Das nächste Treffen wird an einem anderen Ort in einer der teilnehmenden europäischen Doppelstädte stattfinden.

We are pleased to share with all citizens of the European Double City of Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice that on June 2nd and 3rd, it successfully held the 1st Double Cities Dialogue Forum, under the title “Dealing with Difference”. This significant event represents an important milestone in our collective commitment to strengthening cross-border ties and fostering regional cooperation.

The forum took place at the Collegium Polonicum, Słubice, a joint institution of the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). This choice of venue once again demonstrates the deep academic and civic collaboration that defines our double city, Frankfurt (Óder)-Słubice which proudly served as the host of the event.

The forum featured the participation of three core delegations from European double cities. They were actively working on the exchange of ideas and proposals for the future of our cross-border region:

-       The double city Esztergom-Sturovo, in the border region between Hungary and Slovakia.

-       The double city Gorizia-Nova Gorica (European Capital of Culture 2025), border between Italy and Slovenia

-       The double city of Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice (host).

Within these delegations, the forum brought together citizens, as well as representatives of civil society, politics and administration of our communities.

During the two days, several topics of common interest were addressed, seeking collaborative solutions in areas such as youth participation, mobility across borders, bureaucracy, citizen participation, among others.

Together, we discussed and learned how people from very different backgrounds manage to live and work in harmony, dealing with differences in a constructive way. The goal was to generate valuable knowledge and seek new strategies to apply not only to other double cities, but also to European societies as a whole.

This is the first of two forums planned for 2025 and 2026, both will be jointly organised by the cities of Frankfurt (Oder)-Słubice. It is important to note that this event is part of the Interreg Central Europe ‘Border Labs’ project. The next meeting will be held in another venue in one of the participating European double cities.

This forum is a clear example of the willingness of our cities to build a more prosperous and united future. We are grateful for the involvement of all participants and we will continue to provide more updates on the progress and results of this important collaboration.
